I am calling BS on Anthony Bourdain

...Twenty of those years in this business I was an employer, I was a manager employer. Never, in any of those years, not once, did anyone walk into my restaurant — any American-born kid — walk into my restaurant and say I'd like a job as a night porter or a dishwasher. Even a prep cook — few and far between. Just not willing to start at the bottom like that.
Bullshit.  OK,  I never worked at one of Anthony Bourdain's restaurants but I am an American born white kid.  Got my first job in 9th grade at the Spaghetti Depot as a dishwasher, and started training as a line cook before I left.  Second job, laying sod and installing sprinklers for Montana Lawn Service, Third job, Dishwasher at Denny's.  I have done casual work where you show up and they tell you whether they need you or not and I have had jobs where they expect you to work until they let you go home and I am by no means unusual.  Most of my friends and most of their kids has had similar jobs at different points in their life.  This idea that all Americans are so lazy and entitled we won't take a low status job is just shit.
