Maybe Marissa Mayer actually had something in mind when she ended telecommuting

Remember a couple months ago when Marissa Mayer ended telecommuting at Yahoo and people acted like the world was going to end. Turns out there may be some evidence to back her up:

Close-knit teams do well at tackling the challenges in front of them, but lack the connections to spot complementary ideas elsewhere in the company. The University of Chicago sociologist Ronald S. Burt calls these organizational gaps “structural holes.”
