The state of science education:

A friend of mine, in Texas, is fond of complaining about how bad the Texas educational system is – he has referred to it as both worst in the nation and the laughingstock of the nation.  Surprise!! In a recent survey ranking science curriculum state by state Texas fared better than about half the states, scoring a 5/7 on rigor and 1/3 on clarity (mainly because the standards are written in the sub-form of bureaucratese known as educational double-speak).  Hah!!!
