The problem with falling energy prices part II

I said a month or so ago that falling energy prices were going to prove a problem when it comes to maintaining the kind of motivation we, as a country need, to push for energy independence / alternative energy sources. Today Instapundit points out that T. Boone Pickens is shelving his wind power project.

This is unfortunate because I am positive that by next summer gas prices will be back up to $3.50 - $4.00/gal again and by that time the Dems will have reversed the minor gains we have made. Expanded offshore drilling will be gone, oil shale exploration gone, new nuclear plants gone, tax subsidies for solar gone or reduced.

The upside, besides the fact that it doesn't cost me $120 to fill up anymore, to falling prices - it's inflicting a lot of pain on Ahmadinejad and Chavez. Of course if we had a coherent plan we would always have low(er) energy prices instead of being subject to the winds of change.
