Contract with America II part 2

I am trying to come up with 10 issues that I think should be a priority for Republican candidates running for office in 2010.

Energy Independence and Security Act -

  • Expand the strategic petroleum reserve
  • Tax subsidies or credits for infrastructure improvement (i.e. expanding and repair the power distribution grid)
  • Tax subsidies or credits for new solar / windpower installations.
  • Codify the end of the offshore drilling ban
  • Expand nuclear power usage
  • Expand Clean Coal projects
  • X-Prize type award for development of improved battery technology allowing for more efficient electric cars, power storage from solar power etc.

I am not one of those people who thinks that a) we are going to run out of oil tomorrow or b) that we (humans) are a major contributor to global warming, but at the same time our economy doesn't function with out power. Leaving the source of that power in the hands of the likes of Hugo Chavez or Vladimir Putin is not my idea of smart.

This next one I am a little iffy on it may or may not make my final list

Education Reform

Mandate that any school district receiving federal funds

  • -Require Algebra for high school graduation
  • -Require a full year of American history at the high school level
  • -Require economics at the high school level for graduation
  • -Establish a vocational education path for students not interested in a college prep path.

It probably won't make my list, most people probably don't share my views on what a school should be teaching.

Election Integrity Act

  • Eliminate motor voter registration
  • Mandate that states positively identify all voters at the time they vote
  • Mandate that voter rolls be scrubbed annually.

Part 1 here.
