Let Them In: The Case For Open Borders

Let me state up front that I am not an open borders advocate, but I am, I think, an immigration realist. My view on the subject is that as long as our standard of living is so much higher than other countries we are going to have illegal immigration. We aren't going to stop it completely, but we can try and mitigate it. I also think that deporting all those who are currently here illegally would be devastating economically and that the only reasonable solution is assimilation and legalization.

Jason Riley of the Wall Street Journal takes the opposite approach and advocates a completely open immigration system. At least that is how it appears from the discussion over at Becky's page. I haven't read the book but I suspect she is accurate in her summary beacuse despite the fact that she is anti-War on Terror and pro-drug she is also pretty close to scary smart. (plus she looks good in shorts).

I have a great deal of trouble accepting the idea that unlimited open immigration would be good for the US but what the hell I will read the book and maybe he can change my mind.
