Increase automobile fuel efficiency by 5% by using exhaust heat to create electricity

Interesting idea being tested by BMW. Use the Seebeck effect to generate electricity from a car's waste heat. If an efficient enough thermogenerator can be found the alternator can be disengaged and the load on the engine decreased. This can lead to an approximate 5% increase in fuel efficiency.
