Book Recommendations For The Next President

In an article entitled Truth to Power the NY Times asked a number of writers to recommend books for the next President. Most of the recommendations were the typical claptrap such as Barbara Kingsolver recommending "An Inconvenient Truth", Junot Diaz's praise of the warrior-hearted black man running for president in a country that bends over backward to deny its white supremacist tendencies, Barack Obama and John Irving's recommendation of "Son of the Morning Star" to John McCain, so I decided to make my own.

  • The Declaration of Independence, The Constitution, The Articles of Confederation and The Federalist Papers
  • Eat the Rich - P.J. O'Rourke
  • The Wealth of Nations - Adam Smith
  • Decline and fall of the Roman Empire - Gibbons
  • The Prince - Machiavelli
  • The Moon is a Harsh Mistress - Heinlein
  • Kuru Lounge

If you want too, leave your recommendations in the comments.
