Responding to the President's speech this morning Nancy Pelosi stated:
“another page from (an)... energy policy that was literally written by the oil industry — give away more public resources.”
while Barack Obama claimed:
“This is not something that’s going to give consumers short-term relief and it is not a long-term solution to our problems with fossil fuels generally and oil in particular,”
and Harry Reid stated:
“Despite what President Bush, John McCain and their friends in the oil industry claim, we cannot drill our way out of this problem,” Reid said. “The math is simple: America has just three percent of the world’s oil reserves, but Americans use a quarter of its oil.”
Apparently in addition to being a cold hearted bastard who wouldn't deign to piss on a poor person if they were on fire Harry also can't do math:
From my June 13th post:
It makes the point that the Democrats are opposed to increasing domestic supply, but it does nothing to refute the idea that we can't "drill our way out of the current shortage", so to put things in perspective I added some numbers (I always went with the low estimate):
ANWR Exploration

House Democrats: 86% Opposed
Barrels - 4.3 billion
Coal-to-Liquid
House Republicans: 97% Supported
House Democrats: 78% Opposed

Oil Shale Exploration

Barrels - 21 million / day
Reserves in years (US Consumption only)
1057

I really wonder about the intellectual capabilities of our elected representatives sometimes.
