Ah the delicious irony. In 2005 Maria Cantwell proudly proclaimed her opposition to drilling for oil in ANWR, a potential reservoir of up to 10.4 billion barrels of oil or enough to supply 32 years of crude oil at current demand and import rates or 1.5 years if used to supply 100% of US demand. I said at the time that her refusal to support drilling would lead to higher oil prices.
In yesterday's Tacoma News Tribune it was reported that Senator Cantwell now wants oil speculators investigated for driving up the price of oil.
Of course her artificial restriction of available supplies helps makes that speculation possible. (As was previously noted when looking at the effect of the Growth Management Act Senator Cantwell doesn't seem to understand the concept of supply and demand)
That speculation which admittedly drives up crude oil prices increases inflation, including the cost of food, and that mainly hurts the poor. Since Senator Cantwell shows no sign of changing her position I have to conclude once again that Maria Cantwell hates poor people.

Our hope at CoastGuardReport is that Maria Cantwell doesn't hate black people, white people, Hispanic people and people of mixed background. We hope this because she has key oversight of the Coast Guard and should be able to bear pressure on Admiral Allen to find out why his Director of Civil Rights has seen almost a 100% turnover in her senior staff. We're not talking one or two people here, were talking over a dozen key and very senior staff.
Coast Guard Civil Rights is adrift at sea and Maria Cantwell is lifesaver in this case. Come save us. Right now all that is left is the Director Terri Dickeson and a few employees who have no credibility right now with the employees. The short list of those who have left Ms. Dickerson's staff over the past few months are:
Herbert Johnson, GS13 - Dickerson's Office of Civil Rights (Resigned)
· Stephanie Credle, GS14 - Coast Guard Atlantic Area, Civil Rights Director (Resigned)
