I don't think I have ever had as much trouble finishing a book as I am having with Lolita. Don't get me wrong Nabakov's writing is superb. I have a very strong visual image of the locations and characters, but I find Humbert Humbert to be completely without redeeming value. So far he is a pedophile, a liar, and a wife beater, as well as smug, arrogant and French. I get so disgusted with him I want to kick his ass. Which probably shows just how good a writer Nabokov is. Anyway I am finishing it this week. I can't put it off any more, I am not allowing myself to move on again until I finish it and the Kafka stories. I will then be 14/25 of the way through my list.
