Snow Crash
Finished another book on the Geek Top 20. Snow Crash. Previously I had read "The Big U" by Neal Stephenson and had not been as impressed as most of the others who had reviewed that book on Amazon.com. I had the same experience here. I found Snow Crash to be well written and imaginative. The story was even engaging, but I found the basic underlying idea just to ridiculous to accept. I did like his idea for the Metaverse, and the Burbclaves and Franchulates were interesting, but not a realistic twist. Walter Jon Williams dealt with the same idea of sovereign companies in "Hardwired" and "Voice of the Whirlwind" and did a better job I thought. Anyway I probably won't read this book again, but at the same time I ended up enjoying it after a difficult start. It does make me more inclined to read Stephenson's Baroque Cycle.
