Wisdom from a porn star

This morning on twitter I saw a tweet that read:

Mia Khalifa is blowing up due to controversy rather than talent.

Mia Khalifa is the very, very attractive young woman who was in the news recently for performing in a porn film wearing a hijab.  Given the subject I was a little curious so I followed the link to a tumbler site that appears to be run by another porn star.  One I have never heard of, but who seems to answer questions seeking advice, like  a naked Ann Landers I guess.  Anyway the full question was:

Mia Khalifa is blowing up due to controversy rather than talent. I read that your opinion on Belle Knox evolved over time. What's your thinking on this one? For someone who works as hard as you, is it annoying that porn isn't always a meritocracy?

I never really thought of porn as a meritocracy but OK, any the answer that came back read in part:
I have a friend who is constantly worrying about other people’s success. She’ll tell me, “why did this girl get such and such, I deserved that,” and I’m always like, “well, if you deserved it, you wouldn’t be talking about it, you would be working for it.” If what you are selling in genuine and original, nothing should threaten your goals, except your own self-defeating negativity or lack of dedication and focus.
I thought that was a pretty good answer and a philosophy that I have subscribed too for a long time.  I try very hard not to begrudge people their success.  I can't control what happens with them I can only make the effort for myself.  If my efforts are worthy then I succeed.  If not I fail, but really it is on me.

BTW since I went thru all the trouble of writing this I am posting a Mia Khalifa pic and a Carter Cruise pic because my efforts deserve success in the way of hits:
