What I'm Reading 2/18/2014

DARPA Helps Cadets, Midshipmen Prep for Cyber Mission - "DARPA officials said the Defense Department must train 4,000 cybersecurity experts by 2017. Meeting that goal requires building a pipeline for training and education, especially for future officers who will oversee protection of the cyber domain."

US Economic Activity Split in Half and Mapped

Snowden documents reveal that the NSA spied on Wikileaks website visitors - "In one instance, Britain's spying agencies tapped fiber-optic cables and logged IP addresses from every visitor to a certain WikiLeaks site. Another showed that the US government urged its allies to charge Assange criminally over Afghanistan leaks"

Will the NASDAQ soar again?  Not by my math. - "my math leads to me to a very different conclusion: The Nasdaq's prices are severely stretched. Whether such calculations will ultimately lead to a correction in the tech index, of course, depends on whether investors care about linking share prices to such antiquated notions like profits. (I won't wager on that one ...)"

Futurist Paul Saffo: This Backlash Is Just the Beginning - "Well, in the very long run, we’re going to have to have a national conversation about wealth redistribution. I’m not a Marxist but [Oxfam] just reported that the world’s 85 richest people own as much as half the world’s population. I’m a forecaster, and I know when something isn’t sustainable."
