ACORN, Obama and voter fraud

During the 2004 Washington State gubernatorial election there were widespread allegations of voter fraud in Kin County. Especially after the third recount suddenly discovered enough votes to toss the race to Christine Gregoire. Unfortunately the charges didn't stick and everyone went home.

In 2007 King and Pierce County prosecutors filed charges against ACORN (Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now) employees and supervisors for submitting over 1700 fraudulent voter registrations in King County alone. At the time the prosecuters alleged that the fraud was committed for monetary gain, not for political purposes. This however tended to ignore a history of voter registration issues that ACORN has been involved in:

  • In Ohio in 2004, four ACORN employees were indicted by a federal grand jury for submitting false voter registration forms.

  • In January 2005 two Colorado ACORN workers were sentenced to community service for submitting false voter registrations. ACORN's regional director said, "we find it abhorrent and do everything we can to prevent it from happening."

  • On November 1, 2006, four part-time ACORN employees were indicted in Kansas City, Missouri for voter registration fraud. Prosecutors said the indictments are part of a national investigation. ACORN said in a press release that it is in part responsible in these individuals being caught, has fired them, and has cooperated and publicly supported efforts to look into the validity of the allegations.

  • ACORN was investigated in 2006 for submitting false voter registrations in St. Louis, Missouri. 1,492 fraudulent voter registrations were identified.

Now they are being accused yet again. Yesterday Nevada raided ACORN offices in Las Vegas in a voter fraud investigation. Among the evidence collected registration cards for the entire Dallas Cowboys starting line. Apparently they moved en-masse. And it appears that they have struck again in Missouri.

In fact ACORN is being investigated in 10 states including a key swing state - Ohio.

What does this have to do with Barack Obama? Well, He has a long history of association with them. He represented them as a lawyer, taught classes to the leadership, steered grant money to them as a board member of the Woods foundation, and paid them $800,000 for get out the vote efforts.

I just have to ask, why Obama would give $800,000 to a groups that had been repeatedly accused of voter fraud to lead a get out the vote effort?

Barack is already taking steps to distance himself from ACORN as he has done with Rev. Wright, William Ayers, Austan Goolsbee (His economic advisor who told Canada not to worry about the talk on NAFTA), and Tony Rezko. But he was right on Iraq damn it!!!!
