Outrage over the MTV Video Music Awards

First off a disclaimer, I used to be an MTV fan but I haven't watched it since they canceled Beavis and Butthead in the mid-90's and I never watched the Video Music Awards or their Movie awards (whatever they call them). Award shows in and of themselves are pretty lame and the small snippets I have seen of the MTV awards even more so. It's like someone said "Hey I have a barn and a lot of glitter. Let's have an awards show". Cheesy!

Anyway, this morning I woke up to Fox News and they were talking about people being offended by the host of the VMA's last night. I'm thinking "What's new?", but I listened and apparently the reason they were offended was the host -some bearded British shemale I have never heard of named Russell Brand- made an number of tasteless comments about President Bush, Sarah Palin's family, called everyone who wasn't planning on voting for Obama a racist etc.

Again, what's new? I wasn't too bent out of shape when I heard about it. It's MTV for Christ's sake. Did people expect him/her to get up there and espouse on the virtue of the Laffer Curve and the enlightened insight of Rush Limbaugh? Or maybe they thought he would recite the virtues of Objectivism? I'm thinking, "Come on that's never going to happen." It's a given that at any large awards show if a political statement is made it will be pro-democrat / anti-Bush. Why get bent out of shape about it?

Apparently many others don't share my Que Sera Sera attitude. According to Michelle Malkin there is a sizable backlash among the audience last night. More power to them, but personally I think they are wasting their time. The only thing that will have an effect on MTV is if their advertising dollars dry up. So the backlash should be directed that way.

And actually the really offensive part, to me, about this nincompoop hosting is that he isn't funny. If he had been funny this might all be a different matter.
