One of the books on the list of top geek novels of all times. After the first two stories I realized I had read all the others previously (The book has a number of short stories in it). I also came to the realization that it was heavily based on the "Decline and Fall of the Roman Empire", an observation that was backed by the Wikipedia entry on the book. Overall I found it to be fairly typical of Science Fiction of that period, very broadly and vaguely written, but enjoyable. I am going to tie this novel in with another post in a bit however.
