Explain this

Explain this - I spent all day reading in the paper and hearing on the news how tight the vote was in the Wisconsin recall election.  It was going to be a squeaker.  When the polls closed the news agencies officially refused to call the race.  Now I see the race has been called and walker dominated 57.6% to 41.5%.  THAT was too close to call?
