Nice - Microsoft Reinvents Wi-Fi for White Spaces

From the MIT Technology Review

Microsoft has developed a new kind of Wi-Fi network that performs at its
top speed even in the face of interference. It takes advantage of a new Wi-Fi
standard that uses more of the electromagnetic spectrum, but also hops between
the narrow bands of unused spectrum within television broadcast
frequencies

The system utilizes multiple narrow bandwidth radios to slice up the signal and carry more data; this also allows them to move in and out of whitespace more efficiently thus taking advantage of frequencies the FCC open in 2008.

This was also mentioned on the This Week in Computer Hardware podcast.
