Henry Waxman (D-CA) had a report prepared by the minority staff of the House Committee on Government Reform, detailing administration statements leading up to the Iraq War. The link can be found via digg.com
It has the hearts of some all atwitter thinking that finally at long last they will be able to impeach the President. Unfortunately for them if they are successful (despite needing 218 votes in the House and 67 in the Senate, and that supposedly President Bush has declared himself King and Master of All He Surveys), all that means is Dick Cheney becomes
I think he is likely to be a little less bipartisan.
Update: 8/22/06- This story has dropped to page five and at least some people have some sense, since it is now reported as possibly inaccurate.
Here is my problem with this story; I think it is generally accepted that a lot of the information which was utilized during the run up to the Iraq war was inaccurate, however this report and website attempts to portray it all as an effort to lie by the Bush administration.
It ignores the fact that most of the intelligence was developed over the course of the previous administration, the fact that many individuals with oversight of the intelligence agencies had reached the same conclusion as the President, the fact that all the major allied intelligence services had reached the same conclusions as the administration, and the fact that Saddam was engaged in a massive disinformation operation to make us feel as if he had the weapons we thought he did. It also ignores the climate which was in existence at that time. No one was really willing to entertain doubts post 9/11 because of the massive potential for destruction ala the World Trade Center.
If this report was more honest and presented a fuller picture of the events surrounding the start of the war that would be nice
Update #2 8/22/06- Looks like I am alone on this. I emailed a bunch of other bloggers last night asking if they would be willing to help in debunking this report. 14 hours later no response. The downside on being on the outskirts of the blogging community. Other than the guys at Independent Sources I am on my own most of the time. Oh Well I'll survive and hopefully I will be able to complete the debunking in a timely fashion.
