Microsoft's Personal Media Player, The iPod killer?

Bloomberg.com and Pocket-lint.co.uk are reporting that Microsoft is scheduling a release of a Personal Media Player for Christmas 2006.

Designed to be an iPod Killer, the unit will supposedly be tightly integrated with a Microsoft application ala iTunes (Urge?), and will feature Wi-Fi connectivity allowing downloads even when not connected to a computer. Other speculated features include; Ad-Node, which allows advertisers to beam an ad to your Personal Media Player which you can the choose to watch. Watching the ad will allow you to accumulate bonus points towards future downloads. Higher Screen quality is also planned, as well as a method to "transfer" songs from iTunes to Microsoft's Media Software.
