Marine Corps Times - SpecOps unit nearly nabs Zarqawi

Marine Corps Times - SpecOps unit nearly nabs Zarqawi

The Marine Corps Times is carrying the story of the ongoing effort to neutralize Abu Musab Al-Zarqawi. It is an interesting read, especially when coupled with the stories which came out this weekend regarding his loss of popularity with the Iraqi people and his decision to change tactics to a more traditional guerrilla style engagement.

This is just my opinion, but I believe that Zarqawi is losing credibility among the Iraqis. In his recent videotape he claimed that America's back has been broken, but the average Iraqi has to be able to see that isn't true. He tried to prevent a government from forming, but he couldn't do that and he has increasingly relied on killing Iraqi civilians even going so far as to call for the targeting of Shia civilians. I have to believe that such tactics turn moderate Iraqis who just want to get on with their lives away.
